In the fourth of a series, we take a closer look at the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) five player selections in the 2025 Major Series Lacrosse League (MSL) entry draft held in January.  The draft consists of five rounds with seven players selected in each round. With the 13th overall pick in the second round, BLC General Manager Gavin Prout selected Owen Wills, Toronto Beaches Junior A.

Wills played in 23 games for the Toronto Beaches in 2024 and tallied two goals and nine assists for 11 points. He played for the Nepean Knights Junior B lacrosse club before transferring to the Beaches.

Prout said of Wills, “Owen is an extreme athlete. Extremely fast and can play on both ends of the floor. He plays long pole in university however played offense last year in junior. Overall, we drafted a lot of athletes that can make us a faster more dynamic team and Owen fits perfectly in that mold. “

This year, Wills is a Junior with the St. Leo Lions men’s lacrosse program in Florida. This is his second year with the team after a transfer from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell. Wills played 14 games for St. Leo in 2024 scoring three goals and scooping up 15 turnovers. He was an All-Sunshine State Conference Third team selection last year.

Wills said, “I found out about being drafted by Brooklin by following and refreshing Twitter.”

He added, “ I know some of the offensive guys from Brooklin and of course, my coach with the Beaches, Reilly O’Connor, plays there too.”

As for his time at St. Leo, he offered, “we did well last year and made it the Conference semi-finals only to lose to Florida Southern.”

Wills added, “we look like a solid team this season and even though we are a bit younger, that is not a bad thing as we still possess athleticism on the field.”

When discussing what he brings to the game, Wills said, “I have a high lacrosse I.Q. and play as an offensive-minded defender. I feel I am strong in transition and can contribute in all parts of the game.”

BLC will gather for training camp before the 18-game Major Series Lacrosse regular season commences in late May.
